WITOLD LUTOSŁAWSKI
Concerto for Orchestra
Tabita Berglund takes us to other worlds with Grieg and Sibelius
Tonkunstler Orchestra · Benjamin Beilman · Tabita Berglund
GRIEG · SIBELIUS · LUTOSŁAWSKI
With Tabita Berglund conducting Edvard Grieg's score, the Tonkunstler Orchestra joins the «Scandinavian Faust», Peer Gynt, on his journeys through the world and the soul, from the Sahara to the Hall of the Mountain King. The finale of Sibelius's grand rhapsodic Violin Concerto, here in a fiery performance by Benjamin Beilman, was described by a British critic as a «Polonaise for polar bears». It is then only a bear's leap to actual Poland, where Witold Lutosławski crafts folk, baroque, and modern influences into a stunning virtuoso piece for the entire orchestra.
