Symphony No. 4 in f minor op. 36
Exciting season opening of the Tonkunstler Orchestra
Tonkunstler Orchestra · Stathis Karapanos · Yutaka Sado
LARCHER · BERNSTEIN · TSCHAIKOWSKI
To begin the new season, the Tonkunstler Orchestra and Music Director Yutaka Sado present three human fates and their touching musical reverberations. In «Halil» - which means 'flute' in Hebrew - Leonard Bernstein composed a monument to a young Israeli flautist who was killed in the 1973 Yom Kippur War; Thomas Larcher's «Time» - inspired by the news of the cancer diagnosis of his friend, the pianist Lars Vogt, who died in 2022 - is about our perception of time. The programme concludes with Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, whose thundering fate motif leads to a rousing, jubilant finale.
