Grafenegg Wolkenturm
Tribute to Benny Goodman and his legendary Carnegie Hall concert on 16 January 1938.
A Benny Goodman Tribute by Andrej Hermlin.
Swing Dance Orchestra · Rachel Hermlin · David Hermlin · Andrej Hermlin · James Scannell
On a memorable evening 85 years ago, jazz was first heard at New York's Carnegie Hall - and Benny Goodman played with African American musicians for the first time on a New York stage. With the solos and jam sessions of Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, and the virtuoso clarinet of Benny Goodman, that evening would also prove to be a milestone in jazz history. Andrej Hermlin and his Swing Dance Orchestra now recreate this historic event at the Wolkenturm. In addition to the music, the arrangements, and the sound, the stage set-up and costumes are also authentic, transporting the audience back to the New York of the late 1930s.
