In the Grafenegg region

Schloss Grafenegg is located at a meeting point between the regions and landscapes of Wachau, Kamptal and Wagram. The broad, smoothly-flowing river, wide vistas, and the colourful mosaic of landscapes and historical sites characterise this section of the Lower Austrian Danube between Wachau and Vienna.

Wachau

The Wachau is the landscape along the Danube, which has been recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty by the E.U. and afforded special protection. It has been settled for millenia, and developed into a central meeting point in Europe. The Danube was, and is, an important trading route between West and East. Today, this wine-growing region offers culinary specialities and great opportunities for excursions; by bike along the famous Danube Cycle Path, and also by boat and car.

Kamptal

The River Kamp carves its way through ancient rock, clay and soil, with the vineyard slopes climbing steeply on either side. These contrasting landscapes give rise to the beauty of the Kamptal valley.

Wagram

North of the Danube lie Wagram’s sunny vineyards. The impressive terraces of loess, which were hollowed out over centuries by the course of the ancient Danube are a feature which characterise the region’s wines.
